There are very rare occasions where taking the trash to the curb is my chore. (<Insert three cheers for Kenny here>.) This means that I rarely visit one side of my house – no real reason to if I am not schlepping the trash cans and recycling bins out front.
I am on trash duty this week, and, it seems we are growing “grape leaf anemones” over there. And they are HUGE! Like literally take over the entire walkway, so you can’t navigate easily to the front.
Oh, and one more thing – bees love ’em. Which I didn’t know until I was in the middle of this jungle:

…and subsequently had to run like Vada Sultenfuss in My Girl. Only I am much, much older, way less fit and was carrying a container full of glass recyclables. I am not allergic to bees, but that doesn’t mean I like them or would be OK with a sting. So I ran. Yes, with a container of glass. And given that I am extremely self-conscious and – don’t forget – clumsy, this was potentially a bad scene waiting to happen.
Luckily, I made it through without falling or screaming or cursing. The only real bad part? The potential that the neighbors saw me kind of flailing my arms / glass-filled recyclable bin while running and furiously shaking my head to keep the bees away. I am quite sure Kenny’s trash escapades are never this adventurous.
Of course, I had so much fun that I went inside, grabbed my camera and took a few pictures of the flowers and bees.
